24th March 2024

Lukenya University’s initiative to plant ten million tree seedlings in the Mtito Andei/Kibwezi East Constituency area over the next five years is a commendable effort towards environmental sustainability. As a fully chartered, not-for-profit institution, the university is demonstrating a commitment to making a positive impact on the local environment and fostering a greener, healthier future.

The 2nd edition of the 10 Million Trees Marathon at Lukenya University, Mtito Andei, Makueni County, held on March 23rd and 24th, 2024, was a resounding success.

With over 400 participants, including the inaugural Black Mamba bicycle races, the event drew elites, fun runners, and international athletes from across the country. Participants were rewarded with both prize money and participation medals for their contribution to the noble cause.

On the 23rd, a fruitful tree planting day led by Pro Chancellor Dr. Prakash Heda and BOT Chair Hon. Sylvia Kasanga saw over 500 tree seedlings planted by the university community and corporate sponsors such as Greenlife Crop Protection, Rentco Africa, Lukenya Schools, Petro City, Family Bank, DT Bank, Galana Oil, and others.
